Ronald Platten

Ronald D. Platten of Copley Ohio passed away on June 3, 2021. Ronald is the son of Ronald and June Platten and is survived by his wife Sandi, son Ronnie, brother Wayne, sister Robin, father-in-law Frank, nephew Wayne (Mackenzie and Logan), brother-in-law Steve (Marla), brother-in-law Frank, sister-in-law Theresa (Ken), brother-in-law Joe (Sue), sister-in-law Patty, sister-in-law Mary, and sister-in-law Danielle (Rich). He has around 25 nieces and nephews and over 30 great nieces and nephews.
Ron was born on September 9, 1950 and lived in Parma, Ohio with his parents, brother and sister. He graduated from Valley Forge High School in 1968 and went to start his career in Quality Control. He married the love of his life Sandi in 1986. Sandi gave birth to their only son Ronnie on October 26, 1987. He enjoyed spending time with his son as Ronnie became skilled in soccer. Ron started coaching Copley Cosmos and continued to coach for 14 years. He was the President of the Copley Cosmos Soccer Club for 7 years.
Ron loved watching old western movies, documentaries and was a huge sports fan (Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians and Ohio State). He often would call his son Ronnie after each game to talk post-game events. He loved to fish and would take his father and son to Michigan for father-son fishing trips.
His nephew Wayne recalls fond memories of his uncle Ron driving him to PA and taking him on family vacations. Ron was a wonderful mentor to Wayne.
Ron retired from Seal Master in September 2015 and he spent his spent his retirement relaxing and visiting friends and family.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 26, 2021, 1:00pm at St. George Church Hall 3204 Ridgewood Rd., Akron, OH 44333.
