Mildred Costill

March 18, 1927 — May 7, 2021

Mildred "Millie" Costill (Stiller), 94, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, May 7, 2021, with her daughter, Nancy, by her side.

Millie was born on March 18, 1927 in Akron, the daughter of Teresa and John Stiller. She graduated from South High School and married her long-time neighbor and friend Bob Costill and started her family. Millie was a stay-at-home mom at a time when many mothers were. She was an exceptional cook and baker and her cream puffs are legendary. She kept an immaculate house. There was a place for everything and everything was always in its place. At 3:00 a.m. one morning, Bob got up to use the bathroom and when he came back to bed, the bed was already made. All of Dan's and Nancy's friends were always welcome at Millie's and Bob's home. Millie was the fun mom everyone wanted. Friends would stop when Dan and Nancy weren't home just to visit with Millie and Bob. Throughout Dan's long baseball career, Millie and Bob rarely missed a game. They both were his biggest supporters. Millie had a great sense of humor, was quick-witted and made friends everywhere she went. Everyone who knew Millie loved her. Millie wasn't afraid to talk to anyone no matter who they were. She had a conversation with "The Great" Bill Russell, formerly of the Boston Celtics, who was doing TV commentary at the Cavalier's game at the Coliseum in Richfield and Millie had him roaring in laughter. He still refused to give her his autograph which didn't make Millie happy. She loved trips to Gatlinburg, arts and crafts shows, eating out, birthdays and holidays, especially Christmas, her card club friends and her friends at the fitness center. Millie was truly one of a kind and was joking with Dan the morning she passed. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents, Teresa and John Stiller; her husband Bob Costill and her sister Pauline Ickes. She is survived by her son Dan (Sandy) Costill; her daughter Nancy Costill; her brother Bill Stiller and her beloved pets Kiki and Lacey.

A special thank you to neighbors Jenn and Bri and niece Debbie who visited daily supporting her in so many ways. When Millie required additional care, Heather and her team took over providing the care, kindness and companionship Millie so needed. The family is also grateful to the staff at Summa Hospice who provided Millie and her family with compassionate care and support.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 44 University Ave. Akron, Ohio 44308. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
