Obituary

Donald Wayne Nichols, age 75, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 18, 2022. Born in Sutton, West Virginia on October 4, 1946, to the late Carl and Gladys Nichols. Donald was one of 7 children.

Donald proudly served his country during the Vietnam Conflict as a member of the United States Navy where he also took up interest in boxing. Upon his return home from the Navy, Donald settled in Ohio and built a 40+ year career as a Union Boilermaker Weld Specialist, with 32 years' service at B&W (BWX Technologies, Inc.), in Barberton. During that time, Donald proudly served as Union President on three separate elected terms for Local Lodge 900 representing and negotiating the wages and benefits for hundreds of hourly workers before retiring in 2000. After his retirement from the Company, Donald continued his career working in the field through Local 744, Cleveland.

Although Donald had an extensive career with numerous accolades, he was most proud of the role of Dad, 'Grumpa' and 'Papaw'. Survived by his children Aaron Nichols and Nicole (Evan) Carl; two beautiful grandchildren, Skylar and River, and his kitty, Annie.

Along with his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his sister, Ruth Ann Mullins.

Donald Wayne was an avid weightlifter, and later became a semi professional wrestler. A lifelong Harley Davidson enthusiast, he enjoyed riding with his brothers, nephews, friends and his son. Donald loved doing anything that involved his friends and family, especially paintball and camping. His sense of humor and light-hearted nature was magnetic and his ability to just sit and listen was one of his many wonderful qualities. It was in his nature to help, protect and guide. He loved all genres of music, had an appreciation for art and enjoyed perusing antique stores and flea markets. Donald was a man of the people and a true leader.
