Willie Ware Carter

January 4, 1939 — April 23, 2026

Willie Ware Carter, 88, of Akron, Ohio, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 23,2026, surrounded by his family. He was born Tuesday, January 4, 1938, in Demopolis, Alabama, to James and Charlotte Carter. He was the youngest child born out of that union.

He is survived by his son of 57 years, Jonathan Carter, his sisters: Mrs. Beatrice Carter Rembert (Birmingham, AL), and Mrs. Delois Carter Hale (Mobile, AL), his two brothers: Thaddues and William (Teresa) Carter (Demopolis, AL).

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Charlotte Ware Carter, his wife, Jensie Carter and son, Jarvis Carter, his sisters: Adeline (Earl Sr.) Jones, Mary (Luit) Worthy, Lucille (Walter) Worthy, Daisy (Mose) Lewis, Viola (John) Bolton, and Essie Mae Hartfield (Pollin).

Willie graduated from John Essex High School in Demopolis, Alabama. Ware and his sister, Delois, lived together in Chicago for a while when he first moved there. Willie spent most of his adult life in Chicago, Illinois where he was a family man with two sons and a wife. He married Jensie Carter and they had two sons, Jarvis and Jonathan Carter.

Later in life, Willie moved back South to Alabama and Mississippi before relocating to Akron, Ohio. Willie had a natural knack for working with his hands, he dedicated his life to building and carpentry. His skills came in handy when the old home house burned down and Ware helped convert the barn into a home while he rebuilt a new home for his parents in Alabama. He loved to remodel and repair homes.

Many referred to him by his middle name, "Ware". He lived a carefree humorous and adventurous life taking one day at a time. He was a jokester and he was always laughing and finding humor in everyday life. One sure thing about Ware was there was only one way and that was his way. True Story: When his sister, Beatrice Carter Rembert started dating her late husband, George, Ware was 16 years old and he wanted to date George's sister (Rose Maye Rembert). George told Ware that his sister was not interested in him and called him a little boy. So, Ware wrote her a letter and said, "Your brother is dating my sister, and I want to date you. I am not a little boy; I am 16 years old. He told me (his niece) one day if I wanted to lose weight not to cook everything so good. He said, make it taste bad and you will not eat much.
