Timothy Andrew Beringer Sr.

Timothy Andrew Beringer Sr. of Akron, OH, age 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. Tim was born the fourth oldest of eight children to William and Ursula Horrigan Beringer on November 25, 1945, in Akron, OH. He attended Salesian High School in Detroit, Michigan, and graduated King High School in Tampa, Florida, before continuing his education at the University of Dayton. From a young age and especially in high school, his love and natural skill for athletics was boundless. In college, he studied English while excelling as a tight end on the football field. Tim was on the path to play professional football when a terrible accident put him in the hospital for five months. His life was on the line for days, but he fought hard and made it through. Giving up his dream of playing professional football broke his heart, but the same perseverance that carried him through recovery also helped him move beyond the loss and find new ambitions.

After college, he moved to Florida to work for Proctor and Gamble as a sales representative, setting the foundation for a successful lifelong career in sales. It was at this time that he also met his wife of almost 56 years, Linda Sue Neese of Paris, Tennessee.

Tim and Linda married on June 26,1970 and lived in Florida for five years before moving to Akron, Ohio in 1975 where he began working for his father's business, CEECO Equipment, Inc. as a manufacturer's sales representative. Tim and his brother Bill Beringer Jr. purchased the company and devoted almost 40 years to its growth, sharing a rewarding partnership as brothers, friends and business partners. Tim was a talented salesman who earned the respect and admiration of both the companies he represented and the many customers who became lifelong friends. Tim and Bill were very proud to pass on this business to their sons, Tim Beringer, Jr. and Arnie Beringer, who continue the CEECO Equipment legacy today.

However, the impact that Tim was most proud of, and for which he will be best remembered, was the lifetime he dedicated to building community in countless ways.

Big Tim was a man for others. He lived a life of service to the greater Akron community with a special focus on faith-based youth athletics. During this time, he served the community as Loyola of the Lakes Retreat House Board Chair, President of Bluecoats of Summit County, Athletic Director at Saint Sebastian School for 18 years, Saint Sebastian Foundation Board Member, a founding member and Grand Knight of the Saint Sebastians Knights of Columbus, Walsh Jesuit Booster Club President, Member of Walsh Jesuit Board of Directors Executive Committee and Portage Country Club Board Chair. His involvement with the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), specifically in athletics, was extensive. He coached many St. Sebastian CYO teams and stayed involved long after Tim Jr. and Rosie had moved into Walsh Jesuit High School and beyond. His love for Walsh Jesuit Girls' Soccer was forged when Rosie played for Walsh, and Tim and Linda continued going to the games up until recently. The list of his honors and accolades goes on and on.

His greatest pride and joy were his children Tim and Rosie, their spouses Meghan and Matt, and his grandchildren Tripp, Jack and Lilia. "Dad B" spent many, many hours with the kids, watching their sporting events and playing games such as cards or shut-the-box. The hours he shared with his grandchildren became a source of lifelong lessons and memories for them.

Big Tim was an absolute shark of a card player. Poker, bridge, euchre, pinochle, gin, you name it. Up until a couple of months ago, he was still beating his grandkids in gin...maybe Rosie a couple times too ;) His love for golf took him to Scotland numerous times and he was full of laughs during every round. He was a long-time member of the Diamond Grille Golf League and was an active member of Portage Country Club. He enjoyed walking the course at Portage with a caddy and took great pride in having many former CYO athletes on his bag during those rounds.

He loved eating anything sweet or salty, keeping stashes of Tootsie Rolls and pretzels all over the place. His appetite was voracious up until the very end. He enjoyed Linda's meals and was grateful for the care she showed us all through her cooking. He was extremely proud of his Irish heritage, belting out "Danny Boy" together with his Rauh cousins for hours in their cars.

Tim had a larger-than-life presence for all who knew him. He was always willing to go out of his way to help those in need. Friends and family knew they could depend on Tim, whether for support, a good laugh, or one of his many memorable stories. He was quite the storyteller! Whether he was Tim, Big Tim, Big Guy, Mr. B, Dad B, Dad, Uncle Tim, Bigeon, the list goes on...whatever you called him, he was happy to hear it from you. He loved his people, with his whole entire heart. He was full of a zest for life that at times, got him in trouble, especially with Linda. ;)

During the final years of his life, Tim took on his diagnosis with Parkinson's disease and dementia like he tackled most things in life, with grace, bravery and perseverance. The example he set for many during these last years will be lasting. He will be greatly missed by all.

Tim is survived by his wife Linda, his son Tim Jr. and Meghan Beringer, their sons Tim III (Tripp) and John (Jack); his daughter Rosie and Matt Sprecher and their daughter Lilia. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Carl Nichols (Bernie, deceased) and Bridget; sister-in-law Linda (Bill, deceased), children Bill III and Arnie; brother Pete (Susie) Beringer, children Rob, Jeffrey, Julie; sister Mary Cozine, sister Ellen (Bobby) Gates, children Theresa, Patrick, Kelly, David; and brother Vince (Bridget) Beringer, children James, Owen, Katherine, Lilly; Brother-in-law John David (Sue) Neese and children Ashley and Jessica. Sister-in-law Nancy Culver (Jimmy) and children David, Emily, Julie and Michael; nephew Blake Anderson. Aunts Nancy Beringer, Kate Beurhle, Marjorie Dettling and many, many Beringer, Neese, Horrigan, Mannion, Buehrle, Koehnen and Rauh cousins, all of whom he cherished dearly.

Tim was preceded in death by his baby son John Joseph, parents Bill and Ursula, mother and father-in-law Margaret and John Neese, sister Bernie Nichols, brother Bill, baby sister Mary Angela, brother-in-law Bob Cozine, sisters-in-law Elizabeth Anderson and Margaret Ann Neese, his godfather John Beringer, cousin Jack Rauh, and many other beloved relatives and friends.

Calling hours will be Monday, June 22, 4-7 p.m. at Hummel Funeral Home, 2800 W. Market St. Fairlawn, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 10:00 a.m., at St. Sebastian Church, 476 Mull Ave. Akron, Ohio followed by internment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Tim's family are honored to receive all family and friends afterwards at Portage Country Club to continue to celebrate the life of this great man. The mass will be livestreamed on the Hummel Funeral Home website.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Sebastian Parish Foundation in Tim's name, 476 Mull Ave, Akron, Ohio 44320. These will go towards a scholarship to benefit a graduating St. Sebastian student to attend Walsh Jesuit High School in Tim's honor.
