Thomas McClancy

Thomas John McClancy 87 of Akron passed away November 20 2007. Tom was born in Akron Ohio on September 14 1920 to Alba (Taylor) and Augustine T. McClancy. After he graduated from St. Mary's high school he joined the Ohio National Guard and served in the 37th Infantry during World War II. After the war he earned his Bachelor of Arts at the University of Akron. He worked in public service including tax collections and social services. He also taught grade school. He retired from PERS in 1983. Tom loved to read and was a master of information. His lifelong passion was playing chess. Tom was always a true gentleman and will be deeply missed by all who loved him. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Jean McClancy sisters and brothers-in-law Rita (Leonard) Green Marylin Platis William (Mary Jane) Becherer Fr. James R. Becherer and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday November 23 2007 at St. Bernard Church 44 University Ave Akron with Rev. James R. Becherer presiding. Friends may call at the church from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Interment in All Saints Cemetery Northfield.
