Theodore Kanis 82 a lifelong resident of Akron died March 12 2008 at Copley Health Center. A graduate of Akron East High School he served in the U.S Army Air Force from 1945-47. Ted married Lela Mae Wiles on July 2 1949. After 43 yrs. of service he retired from B.F. Goodrich. Ted was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church its Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus Council #4664. Ted was touted as one of the area's best fast-pitch softball pitchers of the 1950s and was inducted into the Akron Amateur Softball Hall of Fame in 1989 with a win/loss record of 200-80. He recorded 5 no-hitters in his career one in a NEO District Tournament. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph A. and Helen (Koval) Kanis sisters Margaret Ciganik Irene Chitty Marian Nolan. Ted is survived by his 'Sweetheart' Lela; daughters Marcia Kanis of Cuyahoga Falls Pat (Tom Wolfe) Kanis of Snohomish WA Connie Price of Wixom MI Kris Kanis of St. Louis MO and Heidi English of Taylor MI; sons Ted (Mary) Rick (Kathy) and Scott (Mary Beth) all of Akron; grandchildren Eric (Laura) Thompson of IL Paul Thompson of N. Royalton Cassie and Laura Commisso of WA Jack (Kerrie) Price Tobby Ridenour Kelly (Jonathan) Astwood Erin (Brian Haynes) Price and Suzanne Finnerty all of MI Brian Lindsay and Kaitlyn Kanis of Akron Tiffany (Matt) Evans and Brooks Kanis of Akron Jessica Mathena and Megan English of MI and Corey Andy and Theo Kanis of Akron; and 10 great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his brother Edward (Marie) Kanis of Akron and sister Helen Kougl of TX; as well as many nieces nephews and friends. A special thank you to our 'second family' at Copley Health Center for all their care and support over the past five years. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday March 17 2008 10:00 am. at Annunciation Catholic Church 87 Broad Street. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery with Fr. Jonathon Zingales officiating.
