Shirley Anne Jackson (nee Scottland) died on Thursday January 3 2008 at Akron General Medical Center. Shirley was born in Surrey England on January 11 1934 to the late Andrew and Elizabeth Scotland. She grew up in Sunderland England and was educated at the University on Durham where she earned an MA in Art History a field of study which remained her life-long love. Shirley moved to Akron with her husband Dale in 1962 and began her long teaching career; 20 years at Old Trail School and 13 years in Western Cultural Traditions at the University of Akron. She loved traveling and visting many places including; Asia Australia Spain Greece Turkey and Bermuda and England. Her passion for tennis never waned even when she became ill she didn't miss a stroke of the matches on TV. Shirley's many friends will miss her astute political observations her keen intellligence and her unflagging wit. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Dale in 2005. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Heather Rebecca and David Kirschbaum; granddaughters Olivia and Alexandra Akron ; brother and sister-in-law Ian and Cathrine Scotland Bermuda; Evelyn Burton aunt; Patty McMillian cousin.sister-in-law Diana (Don) Duncalf sister-in-law Joan Jackson; nieces Charlotte (Sam) Otway all of England; Louise (Albert ) Jones and nephews John Tom Sam Danny Timmy and James all of Wales. Cremation has taken place. Friends are cordially invited to a celebratoin of Shirley''s life at The Martin Center Fir Hill Akron. on Friday January 18 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers friends may choose donate to the Dale L. Jackson Memorial Scholarship Fund University of Akron 302 Buchtel Common Akron OH 44325.
