Sherry Price

December 24, 1943 — July 8, 2025

Sherry Dianne Price (nee Reiss), 81, of Akron, Ohio, left this world far too soon but peacefully on July 8, 2025, at Akron General Hospital, surrounded by family and love.

Sherry was born on December 24, 1943, to Richard Thomas and Pauline Sherry Reiss in Akron, Ohio. Her early years were spent embracing creativity, swimming, and enjoying time at Congress Lake Club with her parents and brother Cliff. During her youth and young adulthood Sherry was fearless, uninhibited, imaginative, and championed many mischievous adventures with friends. At the age of twelve Sherry met her future husband, Russ Price. Sherry attended Old Trail School and graduated from Buchtel High School in 1961. She attended both The University of Akron and The Ohio State University. She always found ways to absorb, reflect, and contribute to the world and lives of others around her. She had the most boisterous, infectious laugh. During her 20s and 30s, Sherry was a member of the Junior League of Akron and Twigs. Sherry volunteered at Akron Children's Hospital rocking infants in the neonatal unit and at the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) through the Akron Children's Clinic. Later in life Sherry served as the fourth President of The R.C.A. Rubber Company, a private family-owned commercial and transit flooring company, established in 1931.

On December 28, 1963 Sherry wed P. Russell (Russ) Price. In November 1967 Sherry entered into what she defined and her most important and rewarding role: motherhood. Russ and Sherry had three children - Amy, Melissa, and Shane. They raised their family in Copley and enjoyed their Ridgewood Acres community, spending countless hours at Bluebird Lake. Sherry was the glue of her family system. She offered her children a life of structured meal times, play times, and afternoon nap times. She provided ever-present encouragement for her children to explore, play, read, and grow. Sherry always put her children first, making sure they had what they needed to learn and thrive. She made their Halloween costumes, was a carpool queen, room mother, a member of the PTA/Sports Boosters, and attended all their concerts and sporting events. Sherry and Russ were also members of Congress Lake Club when their children were young. Sherry often vacationed with her 3 children at the second home of her parents on Sea Island, Georgia. She loved the ocean, walking on the beach, looking for seashells especially sand dollars, flying kites, swimming in the pool, building sandcastles, taking jeep train rides, playing BINGO, and horseback riding. Sherry instilled these joys in the hearts of her 3 children as well. Throughout her children's lives she has been their confidant and a wellspring of comfort, nurturing, warmth, and love.

In 2007 Sherry became a grandmother many years after her contemporaries and self-proclaimed she was "as old as an antique". This declaration affectionately earned her the title "Tique". Being Tique to Owen, Reichel, Flynn, Hayes, Keane, Lincoln, Roman, and grandson number eight on the way added the greatest meaning and deepest joy to a life already filled with purpose.

Sherry loved her family, her friends, her birthday, her home, decorating and baking for the holidays, her flowers, her hummingbirds, bluebirds, all birds, fireworks, and angels. She loved playing bridge and going to lunch with her friends, especially at Fairlawn Country Club. She was an avid reader. She loved Luigi's, Strickland's, Swensons, Skyway, Cafe Arnone, the Diamond Grill, red wine with a short glass of ice, and having all her family around her table for home cooked meals. She loved fiercely, listened carefully, laughed easily and loudly, gave generously, consistently had a good story to tell, and has forever marked those who were touched by her brilliant light. Somehow, Sherry always managed to be the most approachable and welcoming person in the room. She had a great sense of humor and never missed a chance to show curiosity in or genuine concern for everyone. She was always authentically herself. Sherry was an amazing, unique, sparkling, adorable human.

Sherry was preceded in death by her father, Dick Reiss, and mother, Polly Reiss, brother Cliff Reiss, father-in-law Paul Price, mother-in-law Mary Price. She is survived by her husband of 61 years Russ Price and their children Amy Price (Charlotte Belland), Melissa Price, and Shane Price (Lindsey Price), her grandsons, sister in-law Linda Pettit, eight nephews, two nieces, numerous great nieces and nephews, and innumerable beloved and special friends.
