VIEW MEMORIAL PHOTO TRIBUTE Sarah Kaaikaula known to many as Katy Hatton died on April 27 2007 following open-heart surgery. Her family and friends wish to extend their deepest gratitude to all those at The Cleveland Clinic who assisted her and them especially Dr. Eric Roselli and his team of extraordinary professionals. Katy's passing leaves an unfillable void in the lives of those privileged to have known and loved her. Born on May 27 1950 she was preceded in death by her parents Chester and Mae Hatton of Carrollton and a number of pets whose companionship she cherished. She is survived by her daughter ('the love of her life') Rachelle Kaaikaula of Cuyahoga Falls; her sister Dolly Kertes brother Roger (Wanda) Clark nieces and nephews Chrystal and De Ann Clark Frank Kocab Sheila (Dave) Earley Bill (Diane) Kertes and Karen (Tom) Stevens all of the Carrollton area; special friends Anna and Doug Peck of Akron Michelle DePalmo of Rochester NY; many other dear friends too numerous to list individually here; hundreds of students whose lives she influenced as an Adjunct Faculty member of the Department of Social Sciences and Human /Social Services Technology at Stark State College; and more than a thousand dogs and cats who were given a second chance at life because of her deep commitment to and involvement with animal rescue. Katy was a graduate of Alliance High School (Class of 1968) The University of Akron (B.A. Sociology) and Case-Western Reserve University (M.S.S.A.). Her professional career progressed from direct casework to the supervision of others thus engaged at the Department of Job and Family Services from which she retired with thirty years of service. Shortly thereafter she accepted a part-time administrative position with Mobile Meals Inc. and increased her involvement as an Adjunct Faculty member at Stark State College. She was known by colleagues and students alike for her passionate commitment to the role of instructor and her gratitude for having the opportunity to positively impact the future success of those whose learning she facilitated. Katy was an active volunteer with Friends of Pets and later joined with several dear friends in co-founding Home at Last an animal rescue organization. A Memorial Service to celebrate Katy's life will be held Saturday May 5 2007 at 1 PM with a gathering of friends from 12-1 pm at Hummel Funeral Home COPLEY 3475 Copley Rd. Because of Katy's conviction that education has the power to enrich and transform lives her family and friends request that in lieu of other expressions of sympathy and condolence contributions be sent to Stark State College (6200 Frank Ave. N.W. North Canton 44720) where they will fund a scholarship in her name. It would please Katy greatly to know that remembrances of her live on through support of the aspirations of a student body for whom she held such great hope.
