Dr. Ruth E. Friend

Dr. Ruth E. Friend passed away peacefully at Arden Court Memory Care/Promedica Hospice on Wednesday, January 18, 2023. Dr. Friend (née Armstrong) was born in Akron  on June 23, 1939.  She worked her way through college and got her PhD in 1985. Ruth loved being a teacher and her students loved her. She taught at St. Hilary School for 12 years and Akron and Kent Universities for 40 years. Ruth also loved to travel. She visited Africa, Ireland, and the UK along with many places in the United States.

Ruth will be missed by all her family and friends. She leaves behind her brother, William Armstrong (Linda) and her sister, Mary Armstrong, her daughter, Kimberly Friend Walker (Diane) and her son, Kevin Friend. Kimberly shares her birthday with her mother. Kevin owns his own business. Ruth  has 5 granddaughters Kelsey,  Corey, Isabelle, Austen, and Cameron. Also,  one great grandson Leo and many nieces and nephews. Ruth also leaves behind many friends including Beth Thomas, Patsy Forkel, Carla Cornecelli, Sherry Croyle, Marissa Farnum  and John H. Friend.  

There will be a Celebration of Ruth's life at Hummel Funeral Home COPLEY, 3475 Copley Rd, Copley, OH 44321 on Monday, January 23, 2023 at 4:30PM; where Ruth's family will greet friends from 2:30 - 4:30.
