VIEW VIDEO TRIBUTE'' On July 12 2005 Roger Lee Lewis after a courageous battle with lung cancer was joyously reunited with his parents Dewey and Effie Lewis; brothers Herman Charles Dewey Jr.: and his beloved in-laws; John and Ruth David in the Heavenly Home of our Lord Jesus Christ. Roger was born on July 8 1936 the youngest of six boys. He started his career at the Columbus State Institute as the Director of Recreation developing programs for wilderness camping to state winning basketball teams. In 1972 he moved to Akron and worked with his father-in-law in a multitude of businesses before returning to work with youth of the state. He found his soul mate Dorothy David and married her (36 years this coming February) and 3 years ago converted to Catholicism and remarried her in the Melkite Church. He was an inspiration to all who knew him a living beacon of faith and hope a truly joyful person living life and loving God. He leaves behind his caregiver wife Dorothy; children Timothy and Joseph (beloved Andrea) Lewis and Ronda Aurand; brothers Donald and Walter Lewis: 'sisters' Mary Ellen Brewer and Nancy Lewis-Amon; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. These last months were made easier for Roger and Dorothy through the loving assisted care of family: Joyce and JR Smith Roberta Sanders Mary Jerry and David Gardner Joann and Paul Hanna Johnny David Scott and Laura Sanders Stephanie and Steve Flight Jennifer Moore Lisa Venafro and scores of St. Joseph parishioners and Akron Public School employees. The family truly wishes to express deep and sincere gratitude to God's Earthly Angels Summa Hospice Care. A Funeral Liturgy will be held on Saturday July 16 2005 at 10 AM at St. Joseph Melkite Catholic Church 600 West Exchange Street with Fr. Basil Samra officiating. Interment to follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Friends may call at the Hummel Funeral Home 500 East Exchange Street Akron on Friday from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to be made to the family or to Summa Hospice Care in Roger's name.
