Robert Anderson

June 26, 1935 — June 23, 2023

Robert W. Anderson died Friday, June 23, 2023 at Akron General Hospital. He was born June 26, 1935 in Flint, Michigan to Vernon and Irene Anderson.

Bob moved around throughout his childhood, gaining many experiences and knowledge. He joined the United States Marines Corps when he was 20 years old, where he proudly served as a Sargent. He earned many commendations during his service.
He married the love of his life, Marilyn Zateslo, August 16, 1958. This year celebrates their 65th wedding anniversary.
Together, they built a wonderful life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. They were blessed with their three sons, Mike, Rick, and Jim, who were the center of his world. He was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, cherishing his family above all. He was always there to provide support, guidance, and encouragement; his love knew no bounds.
Bob, Marilyn, and the boys moved back to Akron from California following Bob’s discharge from the Marines in 1964. They set up roots in West Akron buying a home on Nome Avenue where they raised the boys. It was important for him to provide a stable and strong family presence for his family. They moved to Copley after the boys were grown up, with their own families. They lived in Copley for about 25 years. Bob and Marilyn were active in the St. Sebastian community for many years where Bob volunteered, helped coach the boys sports teams, or got involved in their extracurricular activities. Bob was always there for his boys, in hell or high water! He would do anything for his family and always gave you his honest opinion - whether you wanted to hear it or not. Everyone who knew Bob can tell you one of his many stories or quote one his favorite euphemisms.
He was a hardworking man, working at Goodyear in Akron for 45 years.

Bob was an avid book reader with vast knowledge about history. Bob always had a great story to tell, a book review to share, or a life lesson worth following. He was respected and admired for his strength, integrity, honesty, and loyalty.

His loss is a tremendous one, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him. His legacy will continue to live on through his children, Mike, Rick (Cindie) and Jim (Anjie); grandchildren, Bobby, Michael Paul (Kelly), Jon, Laura (Andrew) Engel, Alissa (Donovan) Tanner, Chris, Meghan (Nick) Kane, Sarah, Justin and Olivia; and great-grandchildren, Liviann, Donovan, Peyton, Lucas, Karson, Liam, Kaden, Quinn, Harper, McCoy, and baby Engel.

Preceded in death by his parents, in-laws John and Florence Zateslo, daughter-in-law Ann Anderson.

A graveside ceremony will be held August 16, 2023 at 2:45pm at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, Ohio 44273.
