Rita Wem

Rita Wem, 91, of Bath Township, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2026.
Dearest Daughter to the late Jacob Gross and the late Erna (nee Tide); Dear Sister to the late Ena Mauch; Cherished Mother to Lisa (Mark) Amentini, the late Teri Oswald, Greg (Tracy) Wem, Traci Takacs; Cherished Grandmother to Matthew (Melanie) Amentini, Michael (Alaina) Amentini, Courtenay (Cory) Stallings, Kristoffer Oswald, Brittany Oswald, Michaela Wem, Andrew Wem, Tommy Wem, Chelsea (Joe) Winter, Jacob Horvath; Cherished Great Grandmother to Malachi Amentini, Hayden Stallings, Easton Patterson, Grayson Winter, Abigail Winter; Cherished Aunt to Rick Mauch and others.

Rita was a "Volk Deutscher", a German born in Gross Tokmak, Ukraine. After World War II ended, Rita's mother received sponsorship from a Kansas family. Rita, her sister and mother came to America by boat and arrived in New York City at Ellis Island on January 7, 1952. They took a bus to their sponsor family in Kansas where they stayed for a short time until they moved to Cleveland, Ohio to live with their Ohio family. After 5 years, Rita received her American citizenship. She was a secretary in a bank.

Rita met Clarence at a dance hall where they enjoyed dancing the polka. They were married shortly thereafter and were married for 32 years. Rita was a stay-at-home mom for their four children. She loved being a homemaker where she enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening. After Clarence passed away, Rita worked at Country Counter in Richfield for 10 years. She truly loved her job and all the people she met.

Rita enjoyed Bingo, but most of all, Rita enjoyed her time as a mother, grandmother and great grandmother for many years.

Calling hours will be 12pm-1pm, Thursday, October 8, 2026 followed by a funeral service at 1:00pm at the Hummel Funeral Home, 2800 W. Market St. Fairlawn, Ohio 44333. Interment will follow at Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Brunswick.
