Paul Maudru

July 26, 1934 — January 3, 2026

Paul Jay "Junior" Maudru, age 91, passed away peacefully on January 3rd 2026, in Akron, Ohio, the city where he was born and spent much of his life.

Born on July 26, 1934, in Akron, Ohio, Paul was the beloved son of Paul and Pauline Maudru. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in Akron, where his exceptional athletic talents earned him a place in the school's Hall of Fame. A gifted athlete, Paul excelled in baseball, basketball and football during his high school years and continued to shine at the University of Akron, where he played multiple sports. His athletic prowess also extended to the boxing ring as a Golden Glove Boxer.

Paul was a dedicated father-and built a successful career as a manager at a tire company in Tennessee before retiring and returning to his hometown of Akron. Retirement did not slow him down-he remained active for many years playing in the Silver Softball League and maintained a regular workout routine well into his later years. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Paul enjoyed watching all kinds of sports on television.

He was known for his warm personality and ability to make friends wherever he went. Paul had a special fondness for dining out and became a familiar face at several local restaurants where he always sat at his favorite table. His presence brought joy to those around him, and he formed lasting friendships with staff and fellow patrons alike. Paul was also an avid animal lover.

Paul is survived by his son Tom Maudru; nieces Paula Hadley (Tom), Rachel Schaetzle (Steve), Rosemarie Shell (Mike); nephew Paul Bickel (Sandy); and many much-loved great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Pauline Maudru; sister Janet Bickel and her husband Paul Bickel; and nephew-in-law Tom Hadley.

Paul's legacy lives on through the many lives he touched with his kindness, humor, and enduring spirit. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
