Patricia A. Mascolo

August 23, 1934 — February 5, 2026

AKRON - Patricia Ann Mascolo died on February 5, 2026.

Pat was born on August 23, 1934, at St. Thomas Hospital in Akron to parents, George and Bernadine Aldrich. She grew up, married and raised her family in her hometown. A life-long learner, she taught her children and grandchildren life lessons of love, compassion, and service to others which all stemmed from her Catholic Christian faith.

Pat graduated from St. Vincent Elementary and then St. Vincent High School in 1952. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Akron in 1956. Her early career included work as a secretary at Firestone, a recreational assistant at Mason Park, and as a typing and social studies teacher at St. V.

In 1957 Pat married the love of her life, Robert Mascolo. Together, they raised three children, Tom, Kathy, and John. She became a full-time homemaker during those years and also excelled in the role of editor and general office support for the academic pursuits of her husband and children.

By the 1970s, Pat returned to teaching. She served as a substitute teacher at St. Sebastian Elementary and St. Vincent High School and then as a full-time fourth grade teacher at St. Sebastian. As her children matured, Pat's career moved into the areas of public relations and community development. She served as the Public Relations Director at St. Thomas Hospital from 1978-83. She presented educational workshops for Carson-Dellosa Publishing Company from 1983-86.

Pat served as the Family Practice Preceptorship Coordinator for NEOMED from 1986-95. A breast cancer survivor, Pat became an advocate for compassionate care for those with cancer and terminal illnesses. From 1995-99, she served as the development director at VNS Hospice. After retirement, Pat worked as a development consultant for Loyola Retreat House and the ARC of Summit County,

Pat loved her community and provided numerous volunteer hours to causes great and small. She became an Associate of the Dominican Sisters of Peace in 2017. She served on the Women's Committee of the University of Akron for many years, including 2011-13 as President. She was a graduate of Leadership Akron Class X (1993-94) and active in its alumni association. She was a longtime member of the Christ Child Society and active in church organizations, including the Sanctuary Society at St. Sebastian Parish and the PSR Program at St. Hilary Parish. Pat served on the Akron Health Commission from 1995-2006. She volunteered at the Village of St. Edward before becoming a resident there in 2019. Her board service commitments included the Women's Endowment Fund of the Akron Community Foundation, the Summit County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, and the St. Vincent-St. Mary Alumni Association. She also remained active with her sorority sisters from Alpha Delta Pi, the Breakfast Club, and the Teachers Group from St. Sebastian for many years.

Pat's service to the community led to awards and recognition. In 1992, President Bush designated her as a Point of Light. In 1995, the Girl Scout Council honored her as a Woman of Distinction. In 2006, St. Vincent-St. Mary named her an Outstanding Alumni.

Pat's most cherished roles, however, came as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. If you knew her for long, you learned that friends became family. She loved hearing people's stories and sharing a few of her own. Her bright smile and quick Irish wit would light up a room or the one person in front of her who needed that moment.

Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and her brothers, Thomas, Michael, and James Aldrich. She is survived by her children, Tom and Heather Mascolo of Leonardtown, Maryland; Kathy and Chas Brunn of Cuyahoga Falls; and John and Phyllis Mascolo of Akron; her grandchildren, Meaghan and Casey Horrigan, Andy and Brittany Christopher, Andrew Brunn, Katie and Jake Walker, Matt Mascolo, Robert Brunn, Robert Mascolo, and Josie Mascolo; her great-grandchildren Madison, Christopher, Bailey and Jameson; her sisters in law, Ardith Aldrich, Mary Alice Aldrich, and Irene Aldrich; her sister and brother in law, Carol and Alan Garren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
