Nancy Schwab Hamlin

The glue that held our family together for almost 70 years, Nancy Schwab Hamlin died on September 12, 2025. Preceded in death by our father, Jere, in 2006 after 50 years of marriage; her parents, Lillian and Harry Schwab; sisters Marjorie Schwab, Jean McChesney and Dorothy Trecaso; brother Harry Schwab, Jr. and son-in-law, Peter Sorum.

Born in Akron and the youngest of five, Mother attended Our Lady of the Elms grade and high schools. Upon graduation from the College of St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus, she taught kindergarten and first graders at Howe Elementary School in downtown Akron until she married our father. After 25 years as a stay-at-home Mom, she founded The Paper Mill at Pilgrim Square in the early 1980's. Thereafter, she was the Manager and Buyer at Bootie's Dry Goods Store in Peninsula for 15 years and spent the next decade working as a tabletop specialist at Shulan's Fairlawn Jewelers.

Involved for many years in several local volunteer organizations, Mother was a charter member and past president of the Junior Board at Akron City Hospital, member, volunteer and past president of the Junior League of Akron, a board member and trustee emeritus for several years at Akron Child Guidance Center, a "candy striper" and women's board member at St. Thomas Hospital, and an active member in two local garden clubs. These involvements culminated in many cherished life-long friendships and associations.

Mom is survived by daughter Claire of Fairlawn, her step-daughter Priscilla (Tim), their children, Grace and Fletcher; daughter Holly of Chicago, Illinois; son Barry (Jill) of Florence, Kentucky, their children Caroline (TJ), Madeline and Jake; son David (Kathy) of Easley, South Carolina, their daughters Megan, Erin (Cody) and Casey (Austin); 11 great grandchildren (plus one on the way!), and many devoted and loving nieces and nephews, all of whom were much loved in return and absolutely adored by Mom. Also survived by sister-in-law, Jane Schwab.
