Ms. Julia Hummel

Julia Katherine Hummel, 67, passed away February 22, 2020. She was born September 28, 1952 and went to Saint Sebastian Grade School and Our Lady of the Elms High School. Julia graduated from Akron University with a B.S. in Elementary Education. She was working as a Learning Resource Center (LRC) technician for the Akron Public Schools, managing the library, teaching students research skills, and monitoring AV equipment present there. She most recently was assigned to David Hill Elementary and Betty Jane Elementary. Working with that elementary age group kept her young. She loved working with her students. She was a fun-loving person – shopping, wearing makeup, and enjoying beautiful and artistic things. Her lifetime partner Gary and she enjoyed going out to dinner and traveling places. She had quite an infectious laugh! Julia was preceded in death by her father Richard Hummel; mother Charlotte (Burdette) Hummel; brother Thomas and sister Annie (Hummel) Pancrazio. She leaves behind her lifetime partner Gary Krannich and his family. Surviving siblings and their spouses are Charlotte Reymann-Akron, Frances Hickey (Patrick) of Bethesda, MD, Richard Hummel (Brenda) and Mary Bowman (Douglas) of Raleigh, NC. She also leaves behind Sister Ruth Rohr, many cousins, nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, as well as teaching colleagues, students, and friends. We especially thank the teachers who had their students send get well cards to Ms. Hummel while she was in the hospital and then in the nursing home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, February 29, at 10 AM at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 1905 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls, OH 44223. Friends may call at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 East Exchange Street, Akron, 44304 on Friday, February 28, from 4-7 PM. A private burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
