Mary Thomasson

Ms. Mary "Julie" Thomasson, age 83, passed away on December 21, 2022. She was born in Akron, Ohio on October 28, 1939 to Gerard and Jeannette Fischer. Julie is survived by her two children, Denise (Anibal) and James (Julie); grandchildren, Maggie, Elizabeth, Jack, Cooper and Sydney; siblings Sue, Jackie and Guy; and father of her children, James S. Thomasson.

Julie was beloved by all, and she shared her view of the world through her artistic talent, leaving behind a legacy of creativity and beauty. She attended Our Lady of the Elms. She continued her education at Kent State University followed by the Akron Art Institute. The first part of her career was spent with the M. O'Neil department store and she later was co-owner of Kistler Art Gallery. Despite crippling arthritis, Julie spent lots of time with her grandchildren, doing all sorts of crafts and baking incredible goodies. Always found with a crossword or word search in hand, Julie was one of incredible advice, quick wit, and kindness. Family and friends beloved by Julie will join together to remember her for the kind, funny, loving, and intelligent mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and person that she was.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 from 4 to 6 PM at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 East Exchange Street, Akron. A memorial service will follow directly at 6:00 PM.
