Mary Jane Thomas age 92 passed away on July 18 2013. She lived an active life devoted to her family her friends and volunteer service in the Akron community. Born on June 22 1921 to Samuel McKeever and Marjorie Garman McKeever of Akron she was raised by her aunt and uncle Susan G. Gammeter and John R. Gammeter the famous local inventor. A graduate of Buchtel High School she went to business school and worked as a secretary at the Hardware and Supply Company Akron in her early years and then managed the office and bookkeeping for many years at RG Thomas Landscape and Design. She was preceded in death by her husband Gareth and son Richard. She leaves behind her son David (Karen); daughter-in-law Pamela; grandchildren Matthew (Tammy) Justin (Kim) Devon (Jason) and Anthony; her great-grand children Logan Cameran Kaitlyn Gavin Destiny Chloe Alivia and Rylee Jane; her sister Margaret Adams; and many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind her good friend Rita and many other friends who along with her family share fond memories of holiday celebrations and summer trips to the Outer Banks. She will be remembered for her kind and generous soul and her creative flair. She enjoyed fashion and decorating and created lovely jewelry trees. For many years she helped organize and run the rummage sale for City Hospital and the Ohio Mart at Stan Hywet. She served as a member of the Women's Board of Akron City Hospital/Summa Health System throughout her life and served as President of the Women's Board in 1972-73. She also served for many years as a member of the Women's Auxiliary Board of Stan Hywet. She appreciated the many years of care provided by Dr. Salem Dr. Berkovitz and their staffs her pharmacists at Marc's and other health practitioners including the caring staff at Akron City Hospital. Visitation will be held on Tuesday July 23 2013 from 10 AM - 12 PM at the Hummel Funeral Home 500 E. Exchange St. Akron. Funeral services will take place at 12 PM at the funeral home with Reverend Donard Engle officiating. Interment in Glendale Cemetery to follow.
