VIEW VIDEO TRIBUTE Sister Mary Paul Nieberding 91 a Sister of St. Dominic of Akron Ohio died on Tuesday March 1 2005 at Regina Health Center Richfield Ohio. She was in her 74th year of religious profession. Sister entered the convent from St. Paul Parish Akron on September 8 1929. She is survived by many nieces and nephews especially her niece Ruth Sharetts Orville Ohio. She began teaching in 1929 at Our Lady of the Elms in Akron. She has served in the field of music all of her religious life; teaching at Our Lady of the Elms both at the grade and high school levels; Sacred Heart Academy and St. Vincent High School Akron. She was director of music at Our Lady of the Elms High School and St. Vincent High School. Sister also was director of the Dominican Sisters Chorus and throughout her career made six recordings. Sister Mary Paul continued to give music lessons and served as organist at St. Eugene Church Monroe Falls. For many years she was a vocalist with the Akron Symphony and has served as organist for her congregation. She was a professional musician: organist pianist and vocalist. Since 1975 she began a volunteer ministry at Akron City Hospital in the pastoral care department which continued for the next twenty-eight years. She was President of the State Catholic Music Educators Association; President of the National Catholic Music Educators Association and President of the Commission of Sacred Music for the Diocese of Cleveland. In 1984 she was published in 'Who's Who in Akron Area Women' for her outstanding contribution in music to the Akron area. Calling hours will be on Friday March 4 at Our Lady of the Elms Convent 1230 W. Market St. Akron from 3:00-7:00 p.m. with a Wake Service at 4:00. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday March 5 at Convent Chapel at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations in memory of Sister Mary Paul may be made to Summit Choral Society.
