Mary Faye Madiagn, 94, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026
Mary Faye was born on November 2, 1931 in Madison, Georgia to the late James R. Hanahan and Lois (Taylor) Hanahan. She grew up in Columbia, S.C. where she graduated from Dreher High School and went on to receive her teaching degree from the University of South Carolina. Mary Faye taught elementary school in Beaufort, S.C. and Garrettsville, OH.
Mary Faye was a loving stay-at-home mother to her six children, whose lives were shaped by her kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion. Her home was always open to the neighborhood children, and many found comfort, laughter, and encouragement within her kitchen and garden.
A faithful member of St. Sebastian Church, Mary Faye served as a Eucharistic Minister and volunteered on the church ground crew. Her faith guided her daily life and her commitment to serving others was evident in all she did.
Mary Faye had a deep passion for gardening and could often be found tending to flowers and plants. She also enjoyed following the blimp overhead as an enthusiastic "Blimp chaser" and faithfully participated in the annual Metro Park Hiking Spree, embracing both nature and adventure.
She was devoted to her beloved husband, William E., and together they built a loving family centered on faith, compassion, and togetherness.
Mary Faye was preceded in death by her husband, William E.; her sister, Alice Mielke; and her grandson, Joseph Hager.
Mary Faye is survived by her loving children: Mary (James) Conti and grandchildren Julie (Raphael) Peck and great grandchildren Emma and Ava Peck; Jimmy (Jacqueline) Conti and great grandchildren Quinn and Milo Conti; Jeffrey (Fiance, Katrina Erickson) Conti; Kristen (Matthew) Blasiole and great grandchildren Louie, Calder and Ryland Blasiole, Teresa (Daniel) Tompkins and grandchildren Michael Tompkins and Elizabeth (Brandon) Dietz and great grandchild Ryder Dietz; William C. Madigan and grandchild William C. Harkless; Kathleen (Patrick) Hager and grandchildren Billy (McKenzie) Hager, Patrick (Megan) Hager and great grandchild Amelia; James Madigan and grandchild Rachel Madigan; Ellen Christman and grandchildren Matthew (Allison) Christman, Melissa (Dustin) Christman and great grandchildren Isabella and Eliza Williams; Annie Christman and great grandchildren Layla and Levi Donze. Sister, Patricia (Carlton) Hanahan- Eddleman Crisp and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Sebastian Catholic Church on Thursday, May 14 at 11 a.m. The family will receive family and friends prior to Mass beginning at 10 a.m. Internment of Holy Cross Cemetery.
