Mark Zaleski, born March 17, 1963, in Cleveland, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He grew up in Alliance, Ohio, where he graduated from Alliance High School in 1981. During his time there, Mark proudly served as Captain of the varsity football team-an experience that fueled his lifelong passion for the sport.
Mark was a man who loved working with his hands. He found joy in mechanics, repairing cars and bikes, and spending time outdoors fishing and camping. He also loved classic rock, and he spent time daily playing songs on his guitar.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sandra and Julius Zaleski; his brother, Mike West; and his sister, Michele "Mimi" Ballentine. He now joins them in eternal rest.
Mark's greatest pride and joy were his family. He leaves behind his beloved daughter, Brittany Murray, and his son-in-law, Brinkman Murray, along with his two cherished grandchildren, Westyn and Cora, who brought light and delight into his later years. He is also survived by his sisters Rita (Keith) Wilson, Marlene Rigdon, and Kimberly (Gerald) Ulrich, brother Marty (Tracy) Zaleski, sister-in-law, Dottie West, brother-in-law, Glen Ballentine and many loving nieces and nephews.
Though Mark's life held many hardships, struggles, and physical pain, it was within these trials that he found his truest sense of peace. In 2023, Mark discovered his spiritual home at Grace Church Montrose, beginning with an unforgettable baptism in December of that year. His faith became a source of renewed strength and hope. He served joyfully as a volunteer with the First Impressions Team-quickly becoming favored by all the kids for his Life Saver treats at the help desk. He was also an active member of the Smith Life Group. His presence and warm-hearted humor will be deeply missed by his church community.
Mark's legacy is one of resilience and transformation. He will be remembered for his determination, tenacity, and the love he held for his family and friends.
A celebration of Mark's life will be held on Saturday Feb. 7th at Grace Church Montrose, 565 S. Cleveland Massillon Rd, Fairlawn, OH 44333, Visitation: 2:00-3:00 PM.
