Marianne Kissner (nee Weiss), age 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 5, 2024, and was born on September 18, 1947 to the late Anton and Olga Weiss (nee Stiene). She is survived by her beloved husband John; treasured children Carmen (John) Ptacek and Angela (Ray) Kissner; cherished grandchildren Elisabeth, Aiden and Caroline; and many nieces and nephews.
Marianne is preceded in death by brother Manfred Weiss.
Marianne was born in Bruck an der Mur, Austria and immigrated with her family to the United States in 1956 to work hard and bravely pursue the American Dream. Marianne grew up on the West side of Cleveland and attended West Tech High School, the largest school in Ohio at the time, where she was the proud captain of the Warriorettes cheering squad. After graduation, she attended Kent State University and had an accomplished career at BFGoodrich, Noveon, and successfully retired from Lubrizol in 2012, spanning 40 years.
Marianne's greatest joy was spending time with her family, in particular as the #1 fan of her family's countless soccer games. As fate would have it, it was at a soccer game in 1968 where she met the love of her life and best friend, John. They were together from that day onwards for 56 years, often at a soccer field where he was coaching or playing. Marianne was an ardent fan of her husband's Walsh Jesuit boys soccer teams, daughters' and grandchildren's teams and cheered with her cowbells in the stands while simultaneously encouraging "favorable" calls from the referees. Mrs. K, as she became known, also prided herself on providing home cooked pasta dinners for many teams.
Marianne greatly enjoyed traveling the world, playing tennis in her free time, doting on her beloved dog Lio Messi, and was always up for a road trip with John at the wheel, while she navigated the route. Omi, as called by her grandchildren, was our family's rock, our unfailing champion, our loving perfectionist, our formidable 'Jeopardy' aficionado and bibliophile, and now our angel. How blessed we are to have been loved by her. She left this world and everyone she knew in a better place, and her family will forever adore her and cherish her memory.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Marianne to St. Bernard Catholic Church, 44 University Ave., Akron, OH 44308 or to a favorite charity.
