Margy Sprain

January 24, 1926 — March 31, 2021

Margy Anne Sprain, of Fairlawn, 95, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2021. Born in Akron to Harry and Dorothy (McCort) Dugan on January 24, 1926. Margy graduated from Central High School in 1944. Margy and her late husband James, lovingly raised five children in their Catholic faith. She returned to the workforce in 1971 at Monsanto Co., retiring as secretary to the Director of World-Wide Business, Instruments and Equipment, after 20 years service. Margy was a member of St. Hilary Catholic Church since 1965.
Margy loved to dance, and during her courtship, she and Jim were the jitterbug champs at Market Street Gardens. She loved to travel, with her most memorable trip traveling to Ireland to visit her father's homestead and extended family. Family was everything to Margy, who was caregiver to her parents, brother Larry and sister Mary during her illness.
Margy was preceded in death by her husband James of 43 years, her parents, sister Dixie (Charles) Hansel, twin sister Mary Dugan, twin brothers Harry (Nan) and Larry Dugan, son-in-law John Kellett, and nephew Michael Hansel.
Margy is survived by daughters Cindy Kellett (Tim Kester), Susan (Mark) Pangburn, and Dianne Presson, sons Kevin (Maria) and Terrence. She is also survived by grandchildren Andrew Kellett (Julie Mancine), Patrick and Kristian Kellett, Courtney Conley, Monica (Matthew) Meyer, Alan (Angela) Sprain, Caitlyn Sprain, Kyle, Colin and Sean Pangburn, Jack (fiancée Emily Wright), Maggie and Ryan Presson. Also survived by 7 great-grandchildren, former son-in-law Collin Presson, many nieces and nephews and special cousins Gerald and Marie Duggan and their children in County Down, Northern Ireland.
Special thanks to the staff of Summa Hospice, and for the wonderful care provided by the Nursing Care staff at the Village of St. Edward, Fairlawn.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 10, 2021, 9:30 am at St. Hilary Catholic Church, 2750 W. Market St., Fairlawn. The family will receive friends Friday, April 9, 2021, 5-8 pm at Hummel Funeral Home, 3475 Copley Rd., Copley.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Summit County or Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank. When you see Lilies of the Valley bloom in May, smile and think of Margy, as it was her favorite flower.
