M. SISTER

VIEW VIDEO TRIBUTE   Sister M. Rita the former Josephine Snyder 81 in her 61st year of religious profession died at her home Our Lady of the Elms Convent on Wednesday October 11 2006. The daughter of the late Avery and Mary Agnes (Agen) Snyder entered the Sisters of St. Dominic of Akron Ohio of Our Lady of the Elms Convent from St. Peter Parish in Upper Sandusky after graduating from Upper Sandusky High School in 1945. Sister Rita served as food service director at St. Joseph Alliance; St. Agatha Cleveland St. Mary Wooster; St. Bernard Akron and at Our Lady of the Elms. She served at Saint Edward Home Fairlawn for twenty years in food service (1965-81); in auxiliary services and as sacristan (1981-85). From 1985-94 Sister Rita served in Girard Hall the Motherhouse Infirmary as Nursing Assistant and as Assistant Activities Director. After leaving her ministry in Gerard Hall she began to do home care for her sister. She also volunteered at Manor Care and Sunrise Assisted Living where she assisted Sister Philomena in the planning and execution of significant programs. Sister Rita was a member of the Motherhouse Team. Sister Rita is survived by her nieces Sally Candler (Wright) Rosalyn Brenner (Jim) Martha Hottman (Dennis) Suzanne Cavin (Walter dec) Monica Edman (James dec) and nephews Jerry Dick (Sandy) Robert Dick (Mary Margaret) Edward Dick (Deborah) and numerous grandnieces grandnephews and cousins. She is also survived by the many friends who found her beloved because of her friendliness and openness to all persons. Calling hours are at Our Lady of the Elms Convent 1230 W. Market St. Akron OH 44313 on Friday October 13 from 3:00-7:00 P.M. A wake service will be at 4:00 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be in the Convent Chapel at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday October 14. Burial in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Our Lady of the Elms Capital Campaign.
