Laura Salem

Laura K Salem (nee Smith) 97 passed away peacefully on February 18 2012. Laura was born and went to school in Akron. She married George Smith and moved to Toledo Ohio where they raised their family. Laura was employed for many years as a Buyer for the Lion Store in downtown Toledo. After the passing of George Smith Laura married Bill Salem and moved back to Akron where she lived for the past 44 years. Laura's love first and foremost was her family. She would travel to see them wherever they were. Her home was always open to everyone and you could always count on being fed whenever visiting. Cooking and caring for others Laura was passionate about that and would do whatever was needed. Laura also loved to read and work word puzzles. She was an active member of St. Joseph's Melkite Catholic Senior Club and was very active with the church. She was also a member of the Akron Lebanese Kirby Club. Laura is preceded in death by her parents her husbands all of her siblings daughter Karen Wolfe (Smith) and stepson Joe Salem. She is survived by her son Charles Smith sister-in-law Annetta Karam 5 grandchildren 9 great grandchildren and many nephews and nieces all of whom will miss her greatly. Laura's family would like to give a special thank you to the ENTIRE staff at Copley Health Center for both their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will take place on Saturday February 25 2012 1 PM at St. Joseph Melkite Catholic Church 600 W. Exchange St. Akron. The family will receive friends an HOUR PRIOR to Mass at the church. A private interment in Holy Cross Cemetery will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Joseph Melkite Catholic Church or that of the donor's choice.
