Kent Calvert of Copley passed away Sunday September 16 2007. Born February 6 1923 Kent was raised in Cuyahoga Falls and Springfield Illinois. He graduated from Springfield High School worked for Goodyear Aircraft and joined the Navy Air Force in January 1942. During WWII Kent saw 32 consecutive months of active combat duty in the South Pacific where for a period he was listed MIA. On three occasions his plane returned to the carrier with only Kent alive. Kent retired from the Navy in 1963 then worked in the Physics Department at Indiana University Bloomington; the Navy as a Civil Service technical writer at Great Lakes Illinois and in San Diego California; and finally as an independent consultant in San Diego. He was active in the Fleet Reserve Association Knights of Columbus and fund raising for several Catholic churches. Kent was preceded in death by his parents Lorena and Cecil Calvert son Joseph Kent brothers William and Russell sister Annabelle step-mother Mary half-brother Cecil and half-sister Helen. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Beverly (Betty) son Michael and wife Joy daughters Patricia Kurtz and Mary Jo and husband Tom McIntire five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday September 18 2007 at 10:00 AM at Guardian Angels Church Copley 1676 S. Cleveland Massillon Rd. Copley. Burial of ashes in El Camino Memorial Gardens San Diego California.
