June Carter

Mom was born June Hope Johnson to Leta and Elmus Johnson on June 23, 1927 in St. Louis Missouri. In 1945 she met a handsome party crasher behind the furnace at the record player, coining the phrase 'Love at first sight'. Mom was named June, born in June and married her friend, confidant, and soulmate Ed, on June 10, 1950. Mom and dad were a dynamic duo from the get go. Mom worked for American Associated Insurance Company as an insurance adjuster while dad began his career at Firestone. As dad's career took off, so did the Carter's. Between 1950 and 1967 the Carter's moved 16 times. During that time dad was often traveling, leaving all the packing, moving, decorating, school registrations, den meetings, doctor appointments to mom. A lesser woman would have crumbled. The former 1949 Miss Valentine's Day Queen, knew how to shop for a bargain, dress to the nines, host a party, make a new house a home, and get five kids to bed by 8 PM so she could have her popcorn and Coke while reading her next favorite mystery. Mom should be the poster girl for Catholics. Her faith never wavered and became a guiding light for all who knew her, especially us. She started going to daily mass and saying the rosary at age 16, stopping daily mass only when her health failed, but was never without her rosary. Mom's strong faith saw her through losing our brother Ed to cancer at age 29, though it was incredibly hard. Volunteering became her mantra as we got older. One could lose a hand trying to steal a cupcake slated for the church bake sale. She was a Brownie leader, Den mother, past PTA president, and past St Thomas Women's board member and President. Mom found her niche at St. Thomas, volunteering over 40 years. She was often top ticket seller for Day at The Races, organized the Browse and Brunch Christmas Bizarre, ran the hospital gift shop for eons, chaired several other fundraising events too numerous to mention raising tons of money for St. Thomas Hospital, Children's Hospital, the Akron Art Museum and others. There was a time when Mom's picture was in the paper regularly for chairing or attending philanthropic community events. What folks didn't know was all the work behind the scenes and how she volunteered over '40,054' hours of her time. Mom and Dad's 17th and final move was out to Bath in 1968, where they were able to put down roots for good. They were there for 49 years! They threw birthday parties, Christmas parties, holiday dinners (every holiday!), whatever the occasion, their house was the place to be! In the last few years Mom and Dad expressed that they wanted to stay in their home, we honored their wishes. Mom loved Dad, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She thrived as Dad's partner, being mom, CFO for TC Rental, crossword puzzles, reading mysteries, volunteering and hosting! Dad died October 13, mom was truly lost without him. We love you Mom & Dad, Susan, Sue, Janet, Kit & Tom Preceded in death by her one-in-only Ed, son Edward, III, sisters Kay and Peggy, brothers Jack, Bud and Bill. Survived by son Tom, daughters Susan, Janet and Kit, son-in-law Ken, daughter-in-law Sue, 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, October 30, 2017, 12:00 pm at St. Hilary Catholic Church, 2750 W. Market St., Fairlawn, where the family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of service. Entombment Rose Hill Burial Park.
