Mr. Joseph Sarlouis, age 92, went home to our Lord on December 9, 2022. He was born in Akron, OH to the late Martin and Mary Sarlouis. Joe married Martha Sarlouis on November 6, 1954, and she preceded him in death.
Joe was also preceded in death by his son, Joe Jr.; and sisters, Margie James, Marcela Kilfoyle, and Eileen D'Aurelio.
He is survived by daughter, Mary Anne (Evans) Cottman; sons, Patrick, Martin, Robert, John (Margaret) and William Sarlouis; grandchildren, Maria Pinzone, Bess Pinzone, Joseph Pinzone, Basil (Erin) Pinzone, Laura (Jim) Hyres, Charles Pinzone, Benjamin Pinzone, Matthew Sarlouis, Brian Sarlouis and Maris Sarlouis; great grandchildren, Connor Sarlouis, Cole Sarlouis, Leo Pinzone and Jimmy Hyres IV; sisters-in-law, Dolores and Bonnie Halmasy; and many nieces, nephews, and family.
Joe was a decorated Navy Veteran, who served from 1950 to 1954 during the Korean War. He worked on the B & O Railroad for 42 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and volunteered at Akron General Hospital for many years. Joe loved the outdoors, birds, drawing, and playing cards with family and friends. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 16, 2022 from 4 to 6 PM at Hummel Funeral Home, 3475 Copley Road, Copley. Then on Saturday, December 17th from 11 to 12 Noon at St. Hilary Parish, 2750 W Market St, Fairlawn.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at St. Hilary Parish and burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 100 E. Waterloo Road, Akron.
