Jonathan E. (Jack) Wright Sr., of Fairlawn, died March 1, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Charlotte, Michigan on January 9, 1943 to Mildred and Leland.
Jack was a proud, lifelong resident of Akron. He graduated from Ellet High School and then attended the University of Akron for his undergraduate and masters degrees. He began his teaching career at South High School in Akron, and continued at Copley High School teaching History, Sociology, and Psychology. He started Business Underwriters Associates (BUA) in 1979, which he led with his sons until retirement in 2018.
Jack was a dedicated coach, piano player, and collector. He loved trivia, road-trips, the Akron Zips, and taking his dog, Bunny, to the dog park.
He is survived by wife, Debbie; sons Jack (Valerie), David, and James (Courtney); daughters Mary, Kelsey, and Shelley (John); grandchildren Braden (Brooke), Victoria, Serena (Josh), Natalie, Jeremy, Joshua, Alison, Briella, and Stella; and great-grandson Caleb. He was a devoted uncle, great uncle, and friend to many.
A Visitation will take place Friday March 6, 2026 at Hummel Funeral Home located at 3475 Copley Rd. Copley, Oh 44321 from 3-5:30pm with a Celebration of Life to follow at 5:30.
The family suggests memorials to the Humane Society of Summit County.
