John J. Grunninger 93 of Stow passed in peace July 16 2009 at Hospice Care Center. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Theresa (Leimeister) Grunninger; brothers Joseph and George; sisters Catherine Charnok and Mary Kenneley; nephew David Grunninger; and his beloved golden retriever Bruce. John was a WWII veteran and served with the Army 3rd Infantry Division Ordinance Co. He served in Africa Sicily Italy and Germany. He was awarded the Bronze Star and his company received the President's Citation of Honor. After the war he was employed at RH Freitag Tool & Dye where he worked on the landing gear steering mechanism for the B52 Bomber. He then worked for Babcox & Wilcox where he was a quality assurance vendor surveillance field representative. John had FBI and DOD clearance. He worked on supplying the US Navy with its reactors on the Nautilus submarine. John leaves behind his wife Jeanne (Gwaltney) of 62 years; brother Stephen of Cuyahoga Falls; sister Theresa of Glendale AZ; and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday July 20 2009 at St. Martha's 300 E. Tallmadge Ave Akron. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
