Obituary

John William Bachmann went home to his Lord on October 17, 2026. He passed away peacefully while watching the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Buckeyes won.

John did not live a simple and ordinary life. He was a man of faith, hope and love and his legacy will loom large with those whom he encountered. He would burst into song with little or no notice and volume always took precedence over knowing the lyrics. He could talk intelligently about any subject and had an amazing gift for numbers. His humor was legendary and he always had a joke at the ready or an amazing true, or mostly true, or completely untrue, but fascinating story about growing up in Akron and raising his twelve children, foster children, and wayward souls who needed family. His wit was rarely matched and his entrepreneurial spirit created a wealth measured more in adventure and epic tales than fortunes. On his front porch every Saturday for years, you'd find a crock pot full of chili to be delivered to a local soup kitchen. He was an athlete and golfer in his younger years and his love of sports carried through to his last breath. He taught us Euchre and Blackjack, and challenged us nightly in a game of Jeopardy. He found great peace bobbing in the swimming pool in Fort Lauderdale.

He was devoted to his late wife, Kathy and for almost 65 years they shared a bond rooted firmly in a dedication to family, faith, and fun. They danced, they laughed, they modeled to their children and friends that perfect and lasting love is profoundly imperfect. He was so very proud of his family and the families they're building. He will be especially missed by his youngest daughter, Angela and we ask for your prayers of comfort and peace as she adjusts to life without Mom and Dad.

His faith was devout. He dedicated his life to Mother Mary. He sat for weekly adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and took a pilgrimage to Medjugorje. His rosary was always in arms reach and sharing his faith was his greatest gift to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
