Joan Chase

Joan Tunberg Chase died Monday, July 6, 2015, in Savannah, GA. A native of Akron, OH she was the daughter of the late Dean Tunberg and Helen Metzler Tunberg. She was a graduate of St. Vincent's High School in Akron and attended Akron University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. In 1962 Joan married Thomas George Chase. They celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary in February of 2015. From 1975 to 1987 the Chases lived overseas in Nairobi, Kenya, Bangkok, Thailand, San Jose, Costa Rica, and Lisbon, Portugal. Joan was a very active member of American Women's Clubs while living overseas and was elected President of the American Women's Club of Lisbon in the mid 1980's. Joan and Thomas moved to Savannah in 1987, settling at The Landings on Skidaway Island. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Savannah. Surviving are her husband, Thomas George Chase; three sons, Thomas Chase (Cecilia) of Atlanta, GA, Tim Chase (Pam) of Washington, D.C., and Bill Chase (Jenifer) of Chicago, IL; 7 grandchildren, Jennifer, Shannon, Kristin, Michael, Maeghan, Arden, and Tyler; her sister, Marianne Calhoun of Akron, OH; and her brother, Dean Tunberg of Akron, OH. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at St. Vincent Catholic Church, 164 W. Market St., Akron, OH 44303, followed by inurnment in Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests remembrances to St. Vincent Catholic Church.
