Jeffrey Nathan James

Jan 3, 1956 — Jul 26, 2026

Jeff James passed peacefully in his own bed on July 26, 2026, due to complications related to a traumatic brain injury he suffered five years ago. He was surrounded by his entire family, his new granddaughter, and his granddog.

Jeff was an accomplished and respected Akron lawyer for more than thirty years. He helped countless individuals navigate a system that wasn't always on their side and ensured that his clients, regardless of their station in life, were treated fairly and justly. Often described as a "hero" by his clients, friends, and family, Jeff took pride in simply helping people.

Jeff approached every day with positivity and treated everyone he encountered with kindness. He had the unique ability to bring light and clarity to a sometimes dark and confusing world.

In addition to his career, Jeff was a meticulous amateur carpenter, handyman, and tinkerer. He never met a problem he couldn't fix, a house he couldn't rehab, or a three-way switch he couldn't install.

He simply understood how things worked and how everyone and everything fit together. Jeff ended every note, text, and Facebook post with "Love Always." Was he sending his love or encouraging us to spread love? We think both.

Jeff was born to Luther and Mary Alice (Griffis) James on January 3, 1956, at St. Thomas Hospital in Akron, Ohio. He was a proud graduate of Buchtel High School, The Ohio State University, and the University of Akron School of Law.

He leaves his wife, Judy; his son, Cary (Ashlee), and their daughter, Lottie Louise; his daughter, Anna (Ryan Iwaszkiw), and their daughter, Katharina, who is expected to enter the world in September. He also leaves his beloved sister, Jennell (Ron) Woodard; his brother, Tim (Kirsten); nieces, nephews, cousins, and scores of friends.

Per Jeff's request, there will be no services. A gathering of family and friends will be scheduled at a later date.
