Jim Amer, 74, a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and respected business owner, passed away on August 18, 2026, at the Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center with his loving wife and family by his side.
Jim was a kind and generous man who followed in his father's footsteps operating the West Hill Marathon service station for many years. Jim continued the success of the business by building lasting relationships with many from the Akron community, turning customers and employees into lifelong friends. A master mechanic who could fix anything, Jim always went the extra mile to ensure those he served were treated with professionalism and care. His work ethic was beyond reproach and his faithful customers remarked often on Jim's honesty, fairness and kindness.
Jim cherished his five children and five grandchildren and would do whatever it took to help them in any way they needed. His family, and those who knew him personally, will always remember fondly his humorous antics and easy smile.
Jim is survived by his devoted, loving wife of 53 years, Karen Roetzel Amer, who never left his side during his lengthy illness; his children who adored him and will miss him forever, daughters Brigette Amer, Lisa Amer Woods, and Kristy Amer, and sons Jim Amer and Josh Amer (Shawn); and his grandchildren, who filled his heart with pride and joy, Quinn Woods, Wyatt and Ayla Amer, and Audrey and Benjamin Amer.
He is also survived by his mother Mary Ellen Amer, and siblings Tom Amer, Jerry Amer (Lindey), Lynn Mulqueen (George), Mark Amer (Barb), Beth MacWright (Jeff), Tim Amer (Carla), Mindy Granzier (Paul), Emilie Gannon (Iggy), and Christine Amer Mayer (Roger Riddle).
Jim was preceded in death by his father Al Amer, mother- and father-in-law Joanne and John Roetzel, brothers-in-law John Roetzel and David Watts, and beloved sister-in-law Linnie Roetzel.
Calling hours will be 10am-12pm Thursday, August, 27, at St. Francis deSales Church (4019 Manchester Rd. Akron, Ohio 44319), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00pm.
The family would like to thank the hospice team at the Justin T. Rogers Hospice Care Center.
