James Tormey (72), also know known as 'Charmaine', passed away peacefully on August 13th, 2026. Born on August 10th, 1954, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and once a long-term resident of Columbus, Ohio, James came to call Akron, Ohio his best and final 'home'. James was a proud 1972 graduate of Buchtel High School and, following his graduation, he attended Hillsdale College for his bachelor's degree in history and had a career at the First National Bank of Akron.

James had a love for history, books, and music-especially that of 'The Queen of Soul' Aretha Franklin and many other 60s and 70s artists. He often enjoyed Sunday drives, exploring new places, and spending summers in Madison, Wisconsin. He was an avid fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes, always proudly wearing his scarlet and gray.

James is preceded in death by his parents John L. Tormey and Nellie Tormey, and eldest brother Jack Tormey. He is survived by his second eldest brother Thomas Tormey, sisters-in-law Marlyin and Denise, nephew Michael Tormey, and many more cousins and longtime friends.

James had the gift of bringing joy, laughter, and happiness to those around him. We ask that you continue to remember James with these thoughts as we celebrate his life.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 28th at the Hummel Funeral Home located on 500 E. Exchange St, Akron, Ohio 44304 from 5PM ET to 8PM ET. Funeral services will be held the following day at 10AM ET at St Bernards Catholic Church at 44 University Ave, Akron Ohio 44308, following a burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.
