James Nathan Green

May 2, 1934 — July 9, 2025

Copley

James Nathan Green, 91, of Copley, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025, at his home in Copley. Born in Tipton County/Millington, Tennessee, James was the beloved son of the late Henry and Sadie Green. He was baptized at an early age and was a long time member of the Living Word Church in Forest Park, IL.

He is survived by his children: daughter, Pamela (Eric) Cunningham of Washington Township, MI, and sons, Patrick (Dedra) Green of Copley, OH and James Aaron Green, Macomb Township, MI. He will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren-Alexis Green, Christian Cunningham, Cameron (Sarah) Green, and Sydney Green; sisters, Bernice Yarborough of Memphis, TN, Versi (Jim) Snell of Darien, IL, Hattie (James) VanBuren of Memphis, TN, Windolyn Green of Memphis, and by many dear nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Ruby Rollins and Alberta Jackson, and his ex-wife, Odessa Green.

After graduating from Woodstock Training High School in 1953, James, a gifted athlete with multiple scholarship opportunities, had plans to play college basketball. His plans were cut short when he was drafted into the Korean War. He would often reflect that, while his original dream was set aside, his service in the Army led to many opportunities.

After his return, he married Odessa Lee, and together they settled in Chicago, Illinois, in 1959. He pursued higher education and became an apprentice machinist, eventually working as a journeyman for Procter & Gamble. He later retired not only from P&G, but also from Helene Curtis. In retirement, he continued to explore many business ventures.

In January 2021, James moved to Copley, Ohio, to be closer to his family during his final years after surviving COVID. He enjoyed long walks, exploring family history through genealogy, and offering words of advice to those around him. "It's better to struggle for a little while than to struggle for a lifetime" was a phrase he often repeated-a reflection of his steady, practical approach to life's challenges.

We take solace in knowing that his faith will guide him on his final journey.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the caregivers at Brookdale Assisted Living, who cared for James as if he were their own.

According to James's wishes, cremation will take place and a Celebration of Life Service will be held.
