Jack William Porter, AKA Sgt. Jack and Car 11, passed away December 22, 2021, He was born September 23, 1945 to the late John and Martha Porter. He graduated from Norton High School and began working for Norfolk & Western RR. He then became a police officer for the Norton Police Department. Shortly after he began a 30 year career with the Akron Police Department where he proudly served until retiring with the rank of Lieutenant, He also served with the Army Reserves.
He was an EXCEPTIONAL athlete and devoted sports fan. He could have taken on Steven A. Smith on a sports show! As the lead singer he formed bands, most notably Sgt. Jack and the Nite Watch. Such a voice, such an entertainer. His mind was incredible, his smile infectious, his being bigger than life.
Preceded in death by his parents and nephew, he is survived by his wife and best friend, Susan Porter. He is also survived by siblings Gary Porter & Susan Fausnaugh, sons Jack Jr, and Shaun, grandchildren, two fur babies, and so many other family members and friends.
Per Jack's wishes a Celebration of Life will be held in his honor January 8, 2022 at the Cliffside Key Club, 2118 S. Main St, Akron from 2-6 pm. Honey, you will be missed by so many and yes, you Did it Your Way.
