JACK NICHOLAS DEARMITT, 89 of Akron, Ohio passed away July 17, 2024. Jack was born in Powhatan Point, Ohio on June 20, 1935 to Edgar and Ann Dearmitt. The family moved to Akron in 1942. Jack graduated from Central High School in 1954 and worked at Goodyear for nine years before joining the Akron Police Department. He worked in patrol, as a K-9 handler, traffic, and spent 17 years as a juvenile detective. He retired from the force in 1993.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 68 years Edna, daughter, Pam Donatelli; son Tim and grandchildren: Dominic (Amanda) and Vincent Donatelli; Daniel (Bethany) Panella; Erika (Chris) Koeth; Aaron Maciejewski (Paul) and Cecelia (Damon) Bailey; brother, Gene (Becky) and sister-in-law Carol. He was predeceased by parents Edgar and Ann Dearmitt, daughters Jaclyn and Sandra, and brother Jerry.
Jack's greatest joy came from time spent with his family, especially great-grandchildren: Santino, Vito and Amiyah Donatelli; Riley, Savannah, Addisyn and Kayden Panella; Carli and Madilyn Koeth and Greyson and Carson Bailey They could always put a smile on his face.
Jack camped for many years, enjoying Emerald Island NC; golfing in the police league with Tim; working in the kitchen cooking for monthly police luncheons and watching the PGA golf tour.
Jack was a long-time member of St. Bernard Church, serving as usher at the 10:00 a.m. mass. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday July 24, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bernard Church with burial following at Holy Cross Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Tuesday July 23, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hummel Funeral Home, 500 East Exchange Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude.
