Helen Hamlin Marshall died July 11, 2025. Born July 2, 1949, Helen was a lifelong resident of Akron, Ohio and a graduate of Our Lady of the Elms elementary and high school. She attended Marymount College and the University of Akron and received a degree in Fashion and Design.

Helen is survived by her devoted husband, Chester Marshall, who always made certain that her every wish was granted and that her life was filled with beauty, love, and joy. She is also survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Tucker and Holly Marshall, and grandsons Tucker Marshall, Jr and Reid Marshall.

Helen was the oldest of seven siblings. She is survived by Ann and John Fairweather, Kathleen Hamlin, Earl Hamlin III, Michael and Robin Hamlin, Betsy Hamlin, John Hamlin and Kapila Rodrigo. In addition, she had many nieces and nephews who treasured her; Michael and Michele Hamlin Jr., Caitlin and Billy O'Dwyer, Elizabeth Fairweather, William and Dee Fairweather, Earl and Megan Hamlin IV, Henry and Lindsey Hamlin, Kathleen, McKenna and Court Freund. She also is survived by her Aunt Nancy Hamlin (Mrs. Jerome B) as well a 31 first cousins.

Helen was a member of the Children's Hospital Women's Board, The Garden Club of Akron, the Stan Hywet Flower Arrangers at Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens, and the Diggers and Weeders Garden Club.

Helen was an artistic and gifted individual, who had a wonderful eye for fashion and design. In addition, she was an artist, a calligrapher, an interior designer, a garden designer, a gifted flower arranger and a fashionista. Helen created beauty both in her environment and for others.

While living in Pittsburgh, Helen was one of the earliest managers of a Ralph Lauren retail store. Returning to Akron, Helen opened the Helen L. Hamlin Clothier to Women in Merriman Valley. Frequently travelling to New York, Helen discovered and successfully collaborated with many up-and-coming New York fashion designers, such as Steven Stollman, Barry Bricken, Anna Sui and Nicole Miller to create customs fashions for her shop and clients.

Helen was an avid reader, a dog lover and enjoyed playing Mah Jong. She hosted the Monday Mah Jong ladies at her home for many years.

As a gracious and generous hostess, Helen and Chester held many hilarious and fun filled gatherings and celebrations for family and friends at Pine Point Lodge. She never met a stranger and was loving and kind to all who came across her path.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, July 17, 2025 at St. Sebastian Church, 476 Mull Avenue, Akron, OH. Family member will hold Calling Hours from 5:00 - 6:00 pm at the church followed by the Mass at 6:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to the Helen B. Hamlin Education Fund at St. Sebastian Church and School.

We have no doubt that Helen is currently busy making plans to redecorate heaven.
