Helen Hurd

Helen (Patty) Hurd passed away peacefully on December 27, 2022.

She is survived by daughters Cathy and Patti, granddaughter Johanna, and brother Sherwood.

She was preceded in death by parents Helen and Frank Strickland, husband Larry Hurd, and son David Hurd.

Helen was born in Corapolis, PA in 1940, moving to Akron to attend St. Vincent's High School. She raised her family in Cuyahoga Falls, but her attachment to St. V's remained, an equal dedication to Fighting Irish football and Sunday mass.

She had a Victory garden well into the 1980s. She marched in the 1957 Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. Helen often said that her children were her greatest gift to the world.

Ever present was a joy in and a love of nature, manifesting in trips to the Gorge; birds, squirrels, and chipmunks never went unfed.

She will be laid to rest at Northlawn Memorial Gardens.
