Gladys Richardson

September 10, 1912 — July 20, 2005

Gladys Richardson our cherished mother and Nana has passed away at the age of 92. Gladys was born in Lexington Kentucky to parents Nema and Carrick Haverly. She was preceded in death by husbands Keller Waugh and William Richardson brother Walker Haverly and sister Elizabeth Williams. Gladys is survived by son Donald Waugh daughter Patricia (Arthur) Stuart precious granddaughters Amy (Robb) Gordon Stephanie (Jody) Cearlock adorable great granddaughters Madelyn and Sydney special nieces Barbara Caswell and Betty Pence. Gladys was a vital part of the volunteer community in Akron for many years as the original founder of the volunteer program at Children's Hospital Medical Center of Akron. She started out as a 'grey lady' volunteer with the Red Cross and then became the first director of volunteer services at CHMC in 1956. The program has since grown to over 800 volunteers. She received a distinguished service award from Children's for her dedication and commitment to children. Gladys also loved a wonderful bridge game music and movies all of which she frequently enjoyed with her many friends. It was Gladys' wish to return to her beloved Kentucky home to rest beside her first husband Keller. Funeral Services will be private. Those wishing to remember Gladys may do so through contributions to Akron Children's Medical Center Palliative Care Unit One Perkins Square Akron OH 44308. Goodbye to our dear mother. You have brought us laughter and love for many years and we will treasure your memory in our hearts forever.
