VIEW VIDEO TRIBUTE Gerald J. Shane born 9-5-1925 passed away at home on Wednesday November 14 2007. Jerry was born in Patterson New Jersey to Jeannette DeMoy and Nathanial Shane. He was raised in Drummondville Canada and Patterson and attended school at Fishburne Military Academy until his graduation in 1943. Upon his graduation Jerry entered the Army and served in the Philippines and Korea during WWII. In 1950 after completing his engineering degree at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn N.Y. Jerry moved to Akron with his wife Leonora and became one of the original 'Squad' engineers at Goodyear. Jerry was a plant engineer for Goodyear for 40 years. He served as the Zeppelin Rifle Club President for 25 years. He is survived by his children Craig (Stephanie) Jerry Jr. Patrick (Mary Kay) Jeannette and Eric (Christina). He is also survived by grandchildren Robert Kyle Shane Megan Shane Harry Shane Patrick Bachmann Daniel Bachmann Graham Bachmann Lucille Anne Shane and Olivia Shane. Jerry was a renaissance man. Raising his family hunting fishing camping photography and gun collecting were his passions. He was an inventor a mathematician an avid reader and poet. A man of principal and countless talents and he will be missed by many. The Shane family invites all who loved and respected their father to join them at the Hummel Funeral Home at 500 E. Exchange St. Akron promptly at 6:00pm. Monday November 19th for his memorial service. Everyone is invited to a gathering at Jerry's home immediately following the memorial service. We would also like to give special thanks to the wonderful caregivers from Summa Hospice. Nathaniel Clark Joseph Lee Stephanie and Kay you are wonderful people and the peace you helped bring to our Dad and all of us was immeasurable.
