Dr. Eugene Donald Sawan, loving husband, devoted father, and the best Gedo died on February 25, 2021. He was in his 88th year of life.
Eugene was an Obstetrician and Gynecologist, Member of the Society of Distinguished Physicians at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital, and Clinical Associate Professor of Obstetrics/ Gynecology Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and recipient of the Lifetime Achievement in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Eugene grew up in Akron and was raised by his grandparents, Sam and Habacka Sawan. He graduated from Buchtel High School and earned a BA in History from University of Michigan. He served in the US Marine Corps during Korean War. Then went on and graduated from St. Louis University Medical School.
Eugene was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Krill Sawan. He will be dearly missed by his children, Eugene (Amy) Sawan, Carla (Tom) Wasik, Leah (Sean) Hallinan, and Monique (Bob) Kolterman; and his seven grandchildren.
Eugene was a member of Saint Sebastian's Parish, where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, March 1, 2021 at 11:00 am. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may be received Sunday, February 28, 2021, 2-4 pm at Hummel Funeral Home, 3475 Copley Rd., Copley.
