Elizabeth Berry Smith, age 54, passed away January 27, 2026 at her home in Bath, in the presence of family and loved ones. Elizabeth is survived by her husband Jonathan Smith, her sons Jack and Nate, her mother Susan Berry, her brother Parker (Sally) Berry, her sister Ruth (Kerry) Kafcsak, and many loving in-laws and extended family members. Elizabeth was predeceased by her father, James Berry.
Elizabeth would be able to tell her story better, but as she would often say - get to the point! Born in Akron, Ohio and life-long Ohio resident of Bath and West Akron. She graduated from Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy and Taylor University. She wanted to be used for God's purpose when she faced this life-altering diagnosis. She was ready to give her testimony when called and wanted to be a light to shine upon God's plan. Elizabeth can be described as C. S. Lewis described his mother's family who "had the talent for happiness in a high degree-went straight for it as experienced travelers go for the best seat on the train." That was Elizabeth, a qualified tour guide for life's journeys. She developed strong relationships with people she encountered in her life and in her local community, which she fostered through her work, pastimes, and volunteering. She knew value when she saw it and she valued Jon and her sons, her family and friends, the most. Elizabeth left her mark in everything she did, and everywhere she went - especially in the home where she grew up. C.S. Lewis wrote "The pain I feel now is the happiness I had before".
