Eleanor (Barron) Newcomer, 88, peacefully went home to be with the Lord, May 1, 2014, surrounded by her family. She joined her parents; her brother, Harold; her husbands, Fred Barron and Elban Newcomer. Born August 25, 1925 in Stoystown, PA to Howard and Olive Long. Eleanor was a Sharon Center resident from 1954, then moving to Wadsworth in 2005. Eleanor was an active member of Divinity and Sharon Lutheran Churches. Following her marriage to Elban in 1997 she became active at Bethel Mennonite Church in Wadsworth. She retired from Old Phoenix Bank in Sharon Center where she assisted many senior citizens and helped to set up the Meals on Wheels program to service this area. She was a founding member of the Sharon Community Trusts and served as its treasurer for many years. Her kitchen was always open and the house was filled with joy as friends and family gathered to share wonderful times and memories. Eleanor is survived by daughter, Linda (Jack) Ryder of Chippewa Lake; son James (MaryAnn) Barron of Medina; grandchildren Bryan and Brad Rush, Laura Schumann and Matthew Barron; great-grandchildren Duncan and Eleanora Rush, Cooper and Crosby Rush and Karenna Schumann; sister Ruth Beckley; brother Dr. Barry (Karen) Long of Bainbridge and many nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts. The family will greet friends at Hummel Funeral Home, 3475 Copley Rd., Copley on Sunday, May 4 from 4 to 8 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held at the funeral home Monday 10:00 am followed by burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sharon Community Trusts, Sharon Center, 44274 or the charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank the staff of Emeritus at Camelot Place and Crossroads Hospice for their wonderful care of Eleanor.
