Edward V. Matzules, age 88, passed away on June 25, 2026.
August 22, 1937, was a happy day for Albanian/Greek parents Olympia & Peter Matzules, as their son Edward was born. Edward's father then passed away when he was 4 years old. In spite of the sadness & challenge of losing his father at a young age, he went on to a life of accomplishment.
He graduated from Buchtel High School in 1955 where he was voted by his peers as " King B". He received a B.S. in Education in 1962, and completed his Master's degree at the University of Akron in 1968, while working several jobs to finance his college years.
During this busy time working & going to school, Ed met his wife of 65 years Maryann Barbuzza. They married in 1960, and were blessed with 3 children, Eddie, Lia (Anthony), and Lynn, and 2 granddaughters Amelia & Gabriella.
His career in education began coaching basketball, teaching, then on to assistant principal and principal at several schools in the Akron Public Schools system.
Ed's family and friends were very important to him & brought him much joy. He also loved to play golf and spend time with his golf buddies.
Ed's family included his sisters Fotini Hinson, & Artemis Nurches (Orpheus). His special & devoted nieces & nephew, great nieces & nephews & their families.
The Matzules Family would like to extend their gratitude & appreciation to Ed's Cardiology team at Akron General Cleveland Clinic, The Heart Failure Clinic, his Pulmonologist, Copley paramedics, and The Care Team/Hospice, Akron.
