VIEW PHOTO TRIBUTE Edward Greissing 81 of Akron died February 16 2008. Edward was born in Akron the beloved son of Leona and Francis Greissing. He was a graduate of Holy Cross College and attended Case Dental School Akron University Law School and studied Russian Language at Syracuse University. Edward served in the Navy during WWII and later retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Colonel. During his career in the Air Force he also worked in military intelligence at NSA. He received numerous awards including the WWII Veterans Medal Korean Veterans Medal and the Distinguished Flying Cross. After retiring from General Tire International as an Executive he went on to serve his church and community. This service included helping to found ACCESS (a shelter for homeless women and children) serving as the Director of Mobile Meals and supporting St. Bernard's in a variety of roles. Edward received the Bishop Cosgrove Award from the Akron Catholic Commission among other recognitions for his service. Edward was preceded in death by his beloved wife Agatha; brother Gerald and son-in-law Joseph Slader. He is survived by his children Edward (Lisa) Greissing Jr. of McLean VA; Kathleen Slader; Donna (Paul) Albert and Jon (Gretchen) Greissing; 14 grandchildren; 2 great-granddaughters and brother Jack Greissing. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday February 19 2008 9:30 AM at St. Bernard Church 44 University Ave. Procession to form at the church. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery.
