Douglas Roger Bruce
On Wednesday, September 7, 2022, Douglas R. Bruce passed away at the age of 66. He was born in Hartford Connecticut to Roger and Doris Bruce. After graduating from high school, he went on to earn a bachelor's degree, master's degree and then his doctorate from the University of Iowa. Doug taught classes in the Tim Russert College of Communication and Theater Arts at John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio, for 36 years, retiring in May 2022. He had a passion for teaching and loved his job. Had he lived, he hoped to retire to Maine and possibly do some part-time teaching when he wasn't fishing.
Doug loved teaching, but also relaxing by reading or playing his guitar or banjo. He started playing guitar as a young boy and was quite proficient.
Doug is survived by his siblings, brother David (Sheila Williams) Bruce of New York City, sister Diane "Dee" (Tom) Gleinser of Dripping Springs, Texas, sister Barbara (Michael) Vimont of Norton, Ohio, brother James "Jim" (Kathy) Bruce of Cibolo, Texas, and brother Andrew Bruce of Lakeland, Florida, numerous nieces, and nephews as well as many colleagues including former colleague and good friend Linda Seward of Texas. Doug was predeceased by his parents.
Doug will be missed greatly. A memorial observance /celebration of his life will be held at a later date selected by the family. Donations to honor Doug can be made to the Justin T. Rogers Hospice of the Cleveland Clinic in Akron, Ohio, or The Arbors at Fairlawn Nursing Home in Fairlawn, Ohio.
